Performer, scholar and educator, Emily Spencer has both local and international presence in sacred music and pedagogy. Ms. Spencer’s contribution to sacred music in the United States and Europe spans over twenty years in organ and vocal performance. 

 

Ms. Spencer performs and directs at St. Mark’s Cathedral in Salt Lake City, and has been a consultant to organists in Europe and Asia. She currently serves as Sub-Dean for the Salt Lake Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. Her scholarly work includes collaboration on research and education initiatives with prominent music historians. Much of her scholarly work involves German and Scandinavian languages, and she is a published translator, working with German, Dutch and English. 

 

During her thirty years as a music educator in Utah, she has engaged learners at every age and skill level, from early childhood to graduate students. With teaching proficiency in the realms of church music, universities and public schools, Ms. Spencer has influenced hundreds of developing musicians. She is a member of the editorial committee for the Bulletin, the journal of the International Kodály Society, based in Hungary. She is also a member of the Board of Governors of the Utah Cultural Alliance Foundation.
